Episode Eight

Scene: Younger Ben, Younger Gwen, and Younger Kevin arrive at, what looks to be, a warehouse downtown, in Kevin's car. Kevin exits the car and the Youngers follow. He goes over to a padlock on a huge metal door, and unlocks it with a key; then unlocks a combination lock; and finally holds his eye open to a scanner at the side of the door. When everything is unlocked, the huge door sides sideways and lets them into Kevin's home.

Description of Kevin's “Pad”

Kevin's pad is a basic bachelor's pad. It's a large apartment, with three rooms in one. The back half of the apartment is up two steps higher than the half by the front door.

The lower, (to the left), half includes a big screen T.V. pressed up against one wall, with a black leather couch in front of it, and a coffee table between the couch and T.V. that is littered with games and a half eaten pizza in a pizza box. Off the living room there is a door you find out later is a laundry room with a washer, dryer, and table. There is also a spiral iron staircase that leads up to a second floor to the right of the front door.

The upper half is a combination of a kitchen on the left, and an Alien Tech workshop on the right. The kitchen is basic as well, just counters, a ridge, a stove, a garbage can, etc. There is also a bathroom leading off the kitchen that has a toilet and a sink. The Alien Tech Workshop is a bunch of tables set up in a half square formation with blueprints and gizmos and gadgets everywhere.

Upstairs, (you'll need to know for later):
The upstairs is a hallway that leads to seven different rooms.

First Room:
The first room, (first door on the left), is painted dark blue, and has a king-sized bed in it. It's a bit messy, because it is Kevin's room, so there are clothes and magazines and stuff laying everywhere; even pouring out of the closet. There are also a lot of CD's on top of a stereo system. You know – boy stuff.

Second Room:
The second room, (first door on the right), is white, and filled with boxes of Alien Tech, organized and accurately labeled. Nothing special.

Third Room:
The third room, (second door on the left), is red, and has a twin bunk bed and a dresser. There is also a closet and a small table next to the bottom bunk of the bunk bed.

Fourth Room:
The fourth room, (second door on the right), is a mixture of dark purple and light purple streaks. This room has a single queen bed and a white vanity off to one corner. There are also two white side tables on each side of the bed, and the closet door is white.

Fifth Room:
The fifth room, (third door on the left), is light blue – rather than Kevin's dark blue – and contains two single beds; one on each side of the room. Each bed has a side table and there is a walk in closet on one wall.

Sixth Room:
The sixth room, (third door on the right), is dark green with light green trim. It has a bunk bed as well, but a futon bunk bed, where the bottom half is a couch and the top half is a twin bed. It also has a walk in closet and a dresser.

Seventh Room:
The seventh room, (fourth door on the right), is a bathroom. Larger than the bathroom downstairs off the kitchen, this bathroom includes a large bath/shower, a sink, and a toilet.


[Y] Kevin & [Y] Ben: {looking over Kevin's downstairs} Wiiiiiiiiiicked...!!!
[Y] Gwen: Nice place.
Kevin: (blankly) Yeah, well... It's a little quiet, but it's home.
[Y] Gwen: Don't you live with anyone?
Kevin: {shrugs} Used to. {walks towards the kitchen while talking} Whole bunch of us delinquents used to hang here, but then, one by one, they either got themselves locked up or left to find a “better life”, so I've had the place to myself for about a year. {opens ridge} {takes out a beer} Well, you may as well come in and get comfortable, just don't break anything.
{[Y] Kevin & [Y] Ben dash for the video games.}
[Y] Kevin: What life could be better than this?
[Y] Gwen: {rolls her eyes} Boys...
[Y] Ben: Yo! Kevin!
Kevin: {drinking his beer} Hmm?
[Y] Ben: Is this pizza still good?
Kevin: {throws away the beer can} Should be. I just ordered it this morning.
{[Y] Ben and [Y] Kevin both take pizza slices}
[Y] Gwen: (mumbles) Gross.
Kevin: Hey, Lil' Gwen. You just gonna stand in the doorway or are you gonna come in?
{[Y] Gwen walks inside}
{The metal door slams closed as soon as she's out of the way}
[Y] Gwen: (nervous) This is a little eerie.
Kevin: (to [Y] Gwen) Are you going to eat the pizza, or do you want me to heat up some leftover lasagna my mom made me?
[Y] Ben: Awww... Your mommy makes your meals for you?
Kevin: Can it Ben. I'm not above making you sleep out in the car.
[Y] Ben: {shrugs} Fair enough.
[Y] Gwen: Lasagna sounds good.
Kevin: All right then.

Scene: A couple hours later, Kevin is leading the three Youngers up the spiral staircase, pointing out each room as they walk down the upstairs hallway.

Kevin: Seven rooms. One's a bathroom; One's a storage room – it's the only organized room in the house, and I'd like it to stay that way, so keep out; One's my room – stay the f*** out of there – and the other four are rooms that belonged to the people who lived here before. Gwen, you're in the purple room, which belonged to the only girl we had – Kristen. Ben, you're in the green room at the end – Zach's old room. The light blue room belonged to Aaron and Conner. Kevin, you're here, in the red room, which was Max and Blake's. Any questions?
[Y] Gwen: The boys can sleep in their boxers, but do you have pajama's for me?
Kevin: Oh, yeah. Hold on. {goes into his room} {comes out with a really big shirt} Will this work?
[Y] Gwen: {holds the shirt up to her, it falls down to her ankles} Yep. Perfect.
Kevin: Bigger Gwen suggested I wash your clothes for you tonight, so go change and I'll be back with a basket to collect your clothes.
[Y] Ben: You know how to do the wash?
Kevin: When you live by yourself, you have to learn the necessities. (firmly) But of you tell anyone, anything about the way I live, and I'll pull your tongue out and stretch it over the back of your head and tie it to one of your belt loops.
[Y] Gwen: You sure are violent.
Kevin: {going back down the staircase} Necessity.

Scene: A little later... The Youngers are in bed, and Kevin is throwing their clothes in the dryer. After turning it on, he comes out of the laundry room to find [Y] Gwen sitting on the bottom step of the spiral staircase.

Kevin: If you had a bad dream, it sucks to be you, because I do not cuddle.
[Y] Gwen: {shakes her head} No. I just... Can't sleep.
Kevin: {sighs} Well, come on then. {sits on the couch} I'm about to watch I Am Legend... You think you can handle scary?
[Y] Gwen: {stands} I live for scary.
{[Y] Gwen joins Kevin on the couch. He tosses her a small blanket and she wraps herself up in it}
About halfway into the movie
[Y] Gwen: So... I'm confused, what are these things exactly? Zombies?
Kevin: {shrugs} More or less. Their nocturnal human zombies who have basically taken over the whole world.
[Y] Gwen: And the virus that turned them into zombies?
Kevin: A cure for cancer gone wrong.
…later...
[Y] Gwen: (upset) Why did he have to kill his dog?
Kevin: MmmMmm... Guess he didn't have a choice.
[Y] Gwen: Do you think he'll go crazy now that Sam is gone?
Kevin: I think he's already crazy. He's talking to mannequins.
…a little later...
Kevin: {looks down at his lap} What? {sees Gwen is asleep against his leg} When did this happen? I specifically said, “No Cuddling”. {pokes Gwen} {pokes} {poke} {poke} {poke} {she doesn't wake up}
...end of the movie...
Kevin: {poke} (mutters) I can't believe I'm about to do this. {picks up [Y] Gwen} {takes her upstairs} {puts her in the purple room bed} {leaves}
