Emotions In Time - Part 11:

~~~~~~~~~~
“I wonder what Kagome is thinking right now,” Inuyasha said out loud to no one.
And no one replied.
He sighed and looked down. From where he sat, cross-legged, on the edge of a cliff, the ground was over 600 feet down, and he felt like he was floating on mid-air. He looked back up over the enormous landscape. Mountains, that lay thousands of miles away from him, were turning all different colors and shades as the sun rose behind them.
If I could capture the sunrise, and gave it to Kagome, he let his mind wander, Would she like it or not?
Sitting in silence, he pawed at the doors with his innermost thoughts behind them, until they opened.
Would Kikyo like it?
Quickly he slammed the door, shaking his head violently. “No! No! No!” he yelled at himself, “I... can't! It's, too painful.”
Why is it painful? a voice in his head asked. A voice so familiar, it could only be Kikyo's.
“Kikyo?” Inuyasha's head whirled around, desperately searching for her.
Only to find her sitting next to him.
“Kikyo!” Inuyasha jumped away in surprise.
Kikyo looked over at him. “I didn't mean to startle you, Inuyasha. I'm sorry,” she apologized.
Inuyasha crept back to Kikyo slowly, to afraid to look away or even blink in case she would disappear. She looked like she was going to. Her body was the same as it had always been, but she was see-through, and sparkling.
“Kikyo...?” Inuyasha asked hesitantly.
Kikyo smiled and returned her gaze to the sunrise. “A couple months ago, I found out that one could make a single journey back from the land of the dead whenever they choose,” she explained, “But only once, and I have waited until now to come see you... My Inuyasha.”
“Because Kagome is gone,” Inuyasha assumed.
“No, Inuyasha,” Kikyo told him, “Because you finally called.”
Inuyasha smiled, “Oh...”
“Your mother and father send their regards,” Kikyo suddenly changed the subject, “They are at peace in the afterlife, and are happy you are doing well.”
“My mom and dad?” Inuyasha asked, “But, why haven't they visited me?”
Kikyo closed her eyes and shook her head, “Simple-minded Inuyasha.” She re-opened her eyes and looked at him, “The choice is clear: Stay forever in the land of the dead. Or visit the living once more and disappear for good”
Inuyasha didn't respond.
“I envy your parents, Inuyasha,” Kikyo continued, “Inu no Taisho and Izayoi. They're going to spend the rest of eternity together.”
Inuyasha smiled. He liked the thought of his mom and dad being together. He glanced back over at Kikyo and his face fell. “Do you regret it, Kikyo?” he asked solemnly, “Do you... regret... sacrificing your life for Kagome?”
Inuyasha's question caught her off guard and Kikyo had to think for a moment before she could answer. She wasn't thinking about the answer, (she knew that right away), but rather, how to phrase the answer. “No...” she told him slowly, “I do not regret it... but... I do wish that-” She stopped herself short.
“That what?” Inuyasha urged.
Kikyo looked Inuyasha straight in the eyes, “I wish it could have been me,” she confessed to him, then scooted closer to him and laid her head on his shoulder.
There's no warmth... Inuyasha thought, Kikyo, you used to be so warm and comfortable, but now... I can't feel anything from you. You're slipping away, and I can't do anything to keep you here.
“Kikyo...” Inuyasha whispered, wrapping his arms around her, “You always be My Kikyo.”
Kikyo sighed, “I see. It doesn't have to be me. It can be Kagome... and I can be something else.”
“Someone else,” Inuyasha corrected, “My Kikyo.”
“Always, Inuyasha?” Kikyo asked.
Inuyasha smirked, “Always...”
With that, Kikyo faded away in thin air.
Sesshomaru stared at Kagura's back as he, Rin and Kagura made their way through the massive front gates. He was so confused. He didn't trust Kagura in the least, but something about her pulled at his heartstrings.
Kagura stopped. She didn't look back as she addressed Sesshomaru, “It's not polite to stare.”
Sesshomaru blinked twice and raised an eyebrow at the back of her head. Then, in a snap second, his face pressed back into hard lines “Go,” he muttered, with ice at the edge of his voice.
“We're here,” Kagura said simply.
Rin looked around. They were barely ten steps out of the castle gates. Where was Kohaku?
Without another word, Kagura lifted her fan in the air. She opened it, then closed it again and lowered her arm. Sesshomaru moved closer to Rin protectively.
Out of nowhere, Kohaku dropped to the ground on one knee. It only took a moment for Rin to comprehend that he was there – Kohaku was really there – before sh took off running.
“Kohaku!” she screamed, tackling him and knocking him over.
Kohaku was thrust onto his back and nearly choked to death in the process.
“R-R-in!: he gasped, “Ca-n't... br-e-a-the!”
Rin loosened her hug, but did not let go, so they both remained on the ground. “I'm sorry” she was talking way too fast, but she couldn't contain her excitement, “It's just- You were dead! I saw you! Your head fell off and everything. It was really gross and scary and slightly traumatic, so I know it really happened, but then why are you here? How are you here? You know what? It doesn't matter, cause you're alive!”
Sesshomaru and Kagura walked forward to join the two kids where they lay on the ground. Upon seeing them, the two children stood up.
“Lord Sesshomaru,” Kohaku addressed him with a bow.
Sesshomaru made no motion to Kohaku. Instead, he looked down at Rin's smiling face - beaming at Kohaku – and he knew instantly he had forgotten something very important in Rin's new life.
She only met this boy two or three times... he thought, How can he be so important to her?
“My Lord,” Rin interrupted Sesshomaru's train of thought, “May I tell them?”
Sesshomaru understood what she meant. “If you wish,” he answered blankly.
“Kohaku,” Rin was even more excited now, “I know where your sister is!”
Kohaku looked over at Rin. “You do?” he asked, slight disbelief on his voice.
Nodding, Rin exclaimed, “She's living with her friends Miroku, Shippo, Kagome and Inuyasha in a village... hmm... not far from here actually.”
“Really?” the disbelief even more eminent now, “Can you take us there?”
“Out of the question,” Sesshomaru snapped before Rin could even open her mouth.
Rin protested of course, “But, Lord Sesshomaru-”
“No,” Sesshomaru growled, “You are not going.”
At first, Rin was completely prepared to accept this order – as she had always accepted Lord Sesshomaru's orders – but then, something changed. Here, standing beside her, was a boy she had admired and watched die, and all she wanted to do was escort him to where he belonged so she could see how happy he would be with his sister once again.
Well... Who did Lord Sesshomaru think he was to stop her?
Rin took Kohaku's hand. She felt his jerk under her touch at first, (probably guessing what she was about to do), but then was still.
“I'm going.”
Sesshomaru looked over and growled at Kohaku - he was the source of Rin's defiance in Sesshomaru's mind – before flickering his gaze back to Rin. “No. You're not,” he said with a final tone.
“I'm going,” Rin told his again, her voice growing firmer, “You're not keeping me locked up, My Lord. If you want to protect me, you'll come with me, but I am going.”
Blinking a couple times, Sesshomaru suddenly found himself caught off guard by Rin's rebellion.
Kagura snickered and twirled her closed fan around in her fingers, “Ah, how the *Sakura tree can grow, but does it really have any control when the buds bloom and drift away on the breeze...?”
Sesshomaru turned on her angrily. “Don't compare me to a tree,” he snapped.
“Don't make yourself so easily comparable to a tree,” Kagura cooed, opening her fan with a flick of her wrist.
A growl came from deep in Sesshomaru's throat.
“Come on Kohaku.... Kagura...” Rin interrupted, “I'll show you around the castle while some servants pack supplies for our journey, and we can leave in a little while.”
Kohaku glanced up at Sesshomaru's fierce expression and panicked. Was he supposed to follow Rin's command or live?
But Rin's mind was made up. She pulled on Kohaku'a hand, leading him away from Sesshomaru and back into the castle.
Kohaku swallowed loudly.
Okay so... A LONG FREAKIN' TIME AGO, I had a simple conversation with my friend, Clara, from school who pre-reads everything I write before I upload it. The conversation went something like this...
(she had just finished reading Part 9 of this FanFic)
Clara: Where's Kikyo exactly?
Me: She died, remember?
Clara: Well yeah, I know that, but where do you think she went? The afterlife? The land of the dead? Hell? Their all different places.
Me: I don't know. Who even cares?
Clara: Me. You should bring her back.
Me: Ah. No. I'll save the drama for HLABS thank you.
Clara: Assuming, of course, you even start writing HLABS.
Me: (taps my forehead) Relax. It's all up here.
Clara: Activity in your brain and you expect me to relax? That's like, the freaking apocalypse!
Me: Ha. Ha.
Clara: These are the jokes, Zo. Anyway, bring Kikyo back, just for a bit... please?
Me: Why are you such a Kikyo fanatic?
Clara: (shrugs) I like her.
Me: (rolls eyes) Simple enough.
Clara: Yep. Oh, and can you try to be romantic, please? For my sake?
Me: No promises. I don't tend to take a liking to dead chicks.
Clara: Well, here... I'm reading this book... (hands me a book)
Me: "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Romance"? Going places with James, are we?
Clara: Shut it. Anyway, try picking something pretty and relating it to romance. Deep thoughts and such assorted things. The sunset, the ocean, the mountains...
Me: I see none of those things here in the cafeteria.
Clara: I didn't mean here, stupid! I meant in your story!
Me: Okay. All right. Just how do you propose I bring back our phantom psyco-b****?
Clara: How should I know? You're the writer.
Me: You have a point the- Ooo... Ooo...
Clara: Uh-oh! Stop the presses! She has an idea!
Me: Shut up and give me my notebook.
It was an interesting conversation that eventually ended with the Inuyasha/Kikyo scene above.
Jeez. Kill me now.
XD Rin I can't breathe!
And it's leaning more towards a Kikyo/Inuyasha Fic...but it could be an Inu/Kag...please clarify...but otherwise, it is a gr8 story!
